THE NEXT BIG THING |
|
It seems every year something new comes along and sets the fishing world on fire. This year is no different. From swimbaits to Gobies, to tubes and old remakes, the new year brings new promises. One of the hottest lures to hit the market this year is the new Gobie by Clearwater Custom Tackle.. This gobie is so life like in feel and action the smallmouth don't stand a chance.

In the short time since Clearwater released this new lure, it has become the must have lure. I get a ton of calls daily asking about this lure. The biggest question asked is ; What color is best? Good question! I have many that I personally like but they all catch fish. The great thing about Clearwater is the ability to purchase indvidually or in small quantities. This way you can order a couple of every color and decide for your self. Another must have for this spring, is the countless rattletraps and crankbaits available in the color SEXY SHAD, Kevin VanDams success with color has it the latest rage in colors. I guess Kevin did bring Sexy back! Speaking of bringing things back , the Dancin Eel is back. This was a favorite of mine back in the 80's but kind of gone by the wayside with time. The new eel is produced by Yum and has a scent chamber for added attractant. The new eel also sinks so you can control the depth. This lure is killer in pre-spawn and spawn periods. Finally, the all consumed rage is the swimbait, carrying over the popularity from last season, virtually all lure companies have a version of the swimbait. I have seen some sell for over 50 bucks a piece on E-Bay. I personally like the ones made by River 2 Sea and Clearwater Custom Best. Bass magic and the Berkely hollow tube swimbait are also popular choices. I have always been a firm believer that any thing new fished, will catch fish. With the amount of pressure the fish receive these days, I believe they become accustomed to certain lures. This is why I often try to throw much larger lures than everyone or outlandish colors. I fish with a certain someone who frequently starts the day by offering a wager if I catch a fish on a certain lure I have tied on. Its always too big or too ugly to catch a smallie, but usually ends with me getting a free lunch.
I think maybe its time to bring back the deep diving buzzabaits. Whats your next big thing?? |

| Clearwater releases new line up!! |
Clearwater custom tackle has released several new baits for the 2008 season. Most notably is the new Goby imitation. This Goby has an extremely life like , look and feel. Featuring 3-D eyes, fins and a heavier tail for more action. This is sure to be one of the hottest baits on Lake Erie this season. Also, new for this year is the Wackit and the Mud Skipper. The Wackit was specifically designed to be fished wacky style on a dropshot rig. While the Mud Skipper can be fished similar to a Sweet Beaver or as a Jig Trailer. This bait has a smaller profile than the sweet beaver and will be perfect for those finicky smallmouth. They also have added shakey heads in both round or football head.
